Tycho Brahe Planetarium is an exciting building in the center of Copenhagen.
Despite its name, it’s not a real planetarium. It’s a public center for astronomy and natural science and an IMAX theater, named after the great Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe (1546-1601).
The exhibition inside the planetarium features models of the solar system and the planets orbiting the sun. The IMAX theater mostly shows films about nature, and after each viewing the current night sky is explained to the audience.
The building also houses a gift shop which sells a variety of gadgets, posters and magazines about astronomy.
Next to the planetarium you find the café and restaurant, Cassiopeia.
The planetarium stood finished in 1989 and is drawn by architect Knud Munk.
It’s elegantly located in the Vesterbro quarter with Gl. Kongevej on one side and the lake of Sct. Jørgen on the other side.
In the summertime, the local citizens uses the layered base of the building on the lake side to relax.
The lake itself has a plentiful life of birds; ducks, pigeons, gulls, coots, swans, and it’s not unusual to have a close encounter with a heron.
Three beautifully arranged fountains stand in this end of the lake.
This green spot is also popular among joggers and people walking their dog, enjoying their lunch or strolling with their children.
The lake separates Copenhagen from the city of Frederiksberg, with the the planetarium on the Copenhagen side.

I like receiving postcards, and I would very much like you to mail me one from your vacation.
